As part of its national mobility plan, Luxembourg has developed a sustainable car park strategy. One example is to cap the maximum number of parking spaces in office buildings. The background is clear: valuable space should not be used solely for car parking. It is therefore all the more important to utilise existing parking space particularly efficiently. The municipality of Pétange shows how this can be achieved with the help of parkoneer.
The municipality provides a car park that can be used by companies for employees' private vehicles and company vans when they are not in use. On a day-to-day basis, this creates a vehicle swap game when employees arrive in their car, switch to a van and swap both vehicles again at the end of the day. Parking authorisations are managed centrally by the infrastructure department of the municipality of Pétange.
